Amilcar Cabral Library has over 30,000 volumes and 400 periodicals and is open to the public six days a week as the following schedule: Monday 13.30- 19; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.30 - 19; Friday and Saturday 8.30 - 13.3.

There are a wide variety of volumes, but particularily in the following areas of interest:

  • history, politics, social life, economics, literature, religions and cultures covering the countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America;

  • international cooperation, development aid, emergency humanitarian intervention:

  • conflicts and conflict resolution;

  • human rights and the state of women in developing countries;

  • development and sustainability;

  • history of the encounter between East and West, travel literature;

  • interethnic relations and foreign immigration.

The Library contains an extensive section on Colonial East Africa (800 volumes on the history and culture of Africa, travel relations between 1800 and 1900, biographies, history and military history of Italy's presence in Africa) donated by the family of General Guerrino Lasagni.

The volumes are available on the national library cataloging system SBN and are therefore available to be perused online.
